WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is dispelling a report that he will not seek a second term.
Gray, who has been surrounded by scandal since shortly after taking office in 2011, says he has yet to make a decision and became agitated when asked about reelection.
“That isn’t even an issue,” Gray said. “I am not even halfway through my term at this point and this is the discussion? Why don’t somebody come up with some real news?”
A high-ranking source close to D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray tells 9NewsNow the mayor is unlikely to seek another term.
The source, who has been among the mayor’s top advisors, says the outcome of a federal probe will have no baring on Gray’s decision and that the mayor will back another candidate.
Three campaign aides have pleaded guilty to federal crimes surrounding his campaign. Eugenia Clarke Harris, a public-relations executive and longtime friend of the mayor, admitted that she facilitated a $650,000 “shadow campaign” to help Gray get elected.
