GE Recalls 62,000 Washing Machines Due to Safety Risk

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — General Electric is recalling about 62,000 washing machines that may pose an injury hazard to consumers.

The company says it has received 19 reports of washer baskets breaking loose, some of which resulted in damage to the machine’s top panel.

General Electric has not received any reports of injuries resulting from the malfunctions.

The recall involves GE Profile Front Load Washers with model numbers beginning with WPDH8800, WPDH8900 and WPDH8910. They are gold, red or white in color.

The machines were sold at major retailers Best Buy, Lowe’s, Sears, and The Home Depot as well as other stores nationwide between July 2008 and August 2011.

Customers are being urged to stop using the washers immediately and contact GE Appliances for a free repair.
