WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Normal traffic flow has been restored to all Southbound lanes of I-270 at MD-118 in Montgomery County after a police officer was struck while investigating a crash.
Police say an off-duty Montgomery County police officer stopped to help out after two vehicles crashed along I-270 between Germantown and Middlebrook Roads around 5:00 p.m. when a third car struck the officer.
A police spokesperson says the initial crash was caused when two cars slid off the ramp from MD-118 and into the guardrail on I-270.
The officer was taken to a local hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was detoured onto MD-118 with Southbound lanes of I-270 blocked for hours as officers investigated the incident.
