LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A bug in Apple’s new iPhone 5 is causing some Verizon customers to burn through their data plan even when their phone is connected to a wi-fi network.

News of the bug comes just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company “fell short” of its own expectations with a new mobile mapping service.

“Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world,” Cook wrote in a letter posted online.

The company is busy fixing the flawed map application, but have already completed a patch to that corrects the data issues.

Verizon customers using the iPhone 5 can find instructions on how install the patch on Apple’s website.
