The Washington Wizards held their annual media day today as they prepare to start training camp tomorrow. The most asked question is, what will they do now since starting point guard John Wall will miss approximately eight weeks with “early stages of a stress injury to his left patella”.
“It’s tough. I mean, just try to keep positive,” Wall said today. “People around me try to stay positive, don’t think negative at all.”
Wall can’t really be doing much right now, so he says he’s been playing a lot of video games and sleeping.
“It’s a setback because he’s a major component to the team,” guard Jordan Crawford said. “But it’s time for everybody to step up until he’s back.”
Crawford said he could play point guard if needed to.
Because of the injury to Wall, the Wizards signed veteran point guard Jannero Pargo today. Pargo has played in 429 career regular season games and played in 50 games for Atlanta last season. Pargo averaged 5.6 points, 1.9 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 13.4 minutes for the Hawks.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity,” Pargo said.
Pargo added that he also had an offer from the Chicago Bulls, but thought this was a better opportunity.
“Just to come in and be productive,” Pargo said on what he wants to do here. “Work hard. Be a leader. Just do the things I’ve done throughout my career.”
The Wizards will also be without Nenê to start training camp due to plantar fasciitis that was aggravated while playing for Brazil in the Olympics.
“Right now, cause I don’t jump or do nothing, I feel good, pretty good,” Nenê said. “I’ve been working hard, I’ve been doing physical therapy.”
There is no timetable for his return.
The Wizards open their preseason schedule in Charlotte on October 7th.
