WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — City officials unveiled plans for the new Frank W. Ballou Senior High School in southeast Washington.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray helped unveil the design at an event Friday evening at Ballou’s cafeteria.
Construction of the new Ballou is scheduled to begin this winter.
The new school is being built on the playing fields of the current school. The current buildings will be torn down once the new $120 million school is finished.
Inside students will find a fitness center, swimming pool and a basketball court that will make some colleges green with envy.
Officials say the re-build will occur in two phases with the actual school building being completed by July 2014. The overhaul of athletic fields should wrap by Jan. 2015.
The new school will serve 1,400 daytime student and up to 900 part-time evening students.
