ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — Thursday marked the first time members of the media were able to speak with Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett since Washington’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday.

Haslett was candid in speaking about his squad giving up three touchdowns of 48 yards or longer, including a 73-yard score on the very first offensive play of the game when wide receiver Mohamed Sanu passed to AJ Green out of the Wildcat formation.

“We knew the receiver could throw,”  Haslett said.  “We just didn’t know he could throw 50 yards on a rope.”

Haslett also added that they didn’t practice preparing for the Wildcat during the week.

The Redskins could be getting some much needed help in the secondary courtesy of Brandon Meriweather, who could be making his regular season debut on Sunday after being sidelined with a knee injury.

“He’s got football intelligence,”  Haslett said on Meriweather.  “He brings energy to the back-end. We’ve missed him.”

The other big story in the locker room is the return of the regular officials.  Everyone is happy to have them back on the field.

“It’s a new group to yell at,” Haslett joked.

Defensive tackle Stephen Bowen echoed his comments.

“I’m going to bear hug him and tell him I love him,”  Bowen said with regard to veteran official Ed Hochuli.
