LANDOVER, Md. (CBSDC) — Giant Food has issued a voluntary recall of peanut butter products due to possible salmonella contamination.
Giant says peanut butter manufacturer Sunland Inc. may have delivered products contaminated with salmonella and has since removed the select products from its shelves.
Trader Joe’s previously pulled 76 varieties of Sunland-produced peanut and almond butters from store shelves.
Giant Food is warning customers to throw away the following products with the expiration dates between May 1 and Sept. 24, 2013:
16 oz. Sunland Banana Peanut Butter Spread – UPC 04868760906
16 oz. Sunland Raspberry Peanut Butter Spread – UPC 04868761906, 16 oz.
Salmonella poisoning is one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses and can be lift-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems.
For more information on the recall you can call Giant Customer Service at (888) 469-4426 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or you can reach Sundland Customer Service at 1-866-837-1018.
