LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An overturned tractor trailer carrying food spilled 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway, snarling traffic Wednesday afternoon.
The fuel leaked from the truck’s saddle tanks after it rolled onto its side shortly before 2 p.m. near the Baltimore-Washington Parkway exit in Prince George’s County.
At least one other vehicle was involved in the crash.
Two people were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries according to Prince George’s County Fire Dept. spokesman Mark Brady. One person was extricated from their car after becoming trapped in the accident.
Hazmat units are assisting in the clean-up efforts and to offload the remaining fuel on the truck.
