Man Sentenced To 75 Years For One Very Long Day Of Theft

ROCKVILLLE, Md. (CBSDC) - One really wild day of stealing has landed a man behind bars for more than seven decades.
Thirty-four-year-old Paul Jerome Holt of Mt. Airy was sentenced to 75 years in prison on Wednesday.
Holt was convicted on 10 counts of burglary and six counts of theft after stealing more than $1,000 in property from at least nine establishments on July 13.
“When a defendant breaks into businesses to steal and is brazen enough to ignore or tamper with security cameras he flaunts his blatant disregard of the law,” Montgomery County State’s Attorney John J. McCarthy said. “This sentence sends a strong message that you cannot break into businesses, burglarize them and get away with it. This activity will not be tolerated in our community. Mr. Holt will be behind bars for many years.”
Holt’s daylong burglary spree largely targeted Montgomery County and included thefts from a church, funeral home and dental office. He tookg laptops and other electronics such as iPads.
In total, Holt stole more than $80,000 worth of equipment.
Police were able to identify Holt after he was caught on a surveillance camera while trying to cover his face with an umbrella.
