Two Area Private High Schools Rank Most Expensive Nationwide

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A new money list just released categorizing the nation’s most expensive private schools ranks two area institutions within the top 50 – one of those is the second most expensive school in the entire country.

CNN Money ranked Foxcroft School in Middleburg the second most expensive private school across the land, with St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. weighing in as heavy hitter on this list as well at number twenty-seven.

According to the list, if you want your child to walk the halls with the 158 other students, it will cost you an annual tuition fee of $42,700. The school has a reported $27 million endowment.

St. Alban’s school is no sleight either, with an annual tuition fee of $38,823 for its 575 students, and an endowment of $45 million.

The rankings are based on non-boarding schools only, with daytime students attending grades 9 through 12 in the 2012-13 school year.

Perks: A beautiful 700-acre campus, Harry Potter-style inter-house competitions, as well as an indoor ice hockey rink and nine-hole golf course.

Perks: Kent’s campus covers a part of the Appalachian Trail. Their dining hall offers near-gourmet food, including sushi during exams week and an ice cream sundae station.

Fact: The school was founded in 1843 by Miss Sarah Porter, a woman who had been a scholar and a master of languages. She taught herself to speak Hebrew when she was in her 80s.
