LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — In an effort to bolster an ailing backfield, the Washington Redskins will sign former Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant Tuesday night.
Roy Helu is battling turf toe while Evan Royster is dealing with a troublesome knee, making Alfred Morris only healthy running back on the Redskins roster heading into Sunday’s contest with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Washington will not workout Grant prior to signing him, a source tells Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan.
The 29-year-old originally signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2005.
His career flourished after signing with Green Bay Packers in 2007. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2008 and 2009, but saw his 2010 campaign cut short by an ankle injury in the season opener.
Grant started 14 games for Green Bay last season, rushing for 559 yards and two touchdowns on 134 carries.
