ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — An MRI on Trent Williams’ right knee was negative and the left tackle is expected to be day-to-day with a bone bruise.
Williams exited Sunday’s game early in the first half with a knee injury.
Head coach Mike Shanahan said the left tackle was still a little sore on Monday.
“I just felt it give out on me,” Williams said Sunday.
He returned to the game late in the second quarter and for a brief moment immediately after halftime. Shortly thereafter he settled on the sideline for the remainder of the afternoon.
Washington’s pass protection struggled mightily in Williams’ absence. Robert Griffin III was sacked six times by the Cincinnati Bengals and hurried on countless other occasions.
Jordan Black replaced Williams at left tackle following the injury. Shanahan said the veteran from Notre Dame did a pretty good job while making a concession he was a bit rusty after missing a year of football.
