YORK, Va. (AP) — A York County woman faces charges of abandoning her infant daughter in a swampy, wooded area.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets that a person walking in the woods in the Dandy area Saturday afternoon found the infant after hearing her cry. The infant was wrapped in a towel.
Police arrested 18-year-old Viktoria Williams on a felony child neglect charge. She’s being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she has an attorney.
The infant was taken to a local hospital. Doctors say she’s an estimated 3 days to 1 week old. She doesn’t appear to have any life-threatening injuries. The hospital is caring for the infant.
