BEAVER, W.Va. (AP) — State officials say a correctional officer accused of having sex with Southern Regional Jail inmates has worked there since September 2008 and hasn’t worked at any other West Virginia jails.
Twenty-nine-year-old William Roy Wilson of Beckley was being held in an isolation cell on $75,000 bond Friday.
He’s accused of having sex with at least three women since May in exchange for cigarettes.
West Virginia Regional Jail Authority spokeswoman Ashley Bennett says an inmate brought the allegations against Wilson to the authority, and it did an internal investigation before turning the case over to State Police.
Bennett says that’s what happens anytime allegations are raised that staff might be involved in something illegal.
She couldn’t immediately comment on whether similar allegations have been raised against Wilson in the past.
