ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC) - A large section of Columbia Pike has been partially blocked for most of the morning commute due to a water main break.
Arlington blog ARLnow says Columbia Pike is closed to all through traffic between George Mason Drive and Four Mile Run. A worker on the scene told ARLnow that portion of the road would remain closed until around noon.
The break reportedly occurred in an eight-inch water main under Columbia Pike across from the Whitemore Apartments located at 4301 Columbia Pike around 4:00 a.m.
Water was quickly shut off to prevent flooding but crews had to dig a six-foot deep hole in the westbound lanes to reach the busted pipe.
No residents have lost power as a result of the break, ARLnow says.
