WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Cars were detoured at Southern Avenue Wednesday morning while investigators combed through evidence at the site of a police-involved shooting late Tuesday evening.

The incident took place along the border of Prince George’s County and the District after residents reported a man was firing a gun in their community.

Police found the man still firing rounds at 800 Southern Avenue NE at about 10:07 p.m on Tuesday. They say they returned fire when the man began firing at them. Police struck the man several times during the exchange and transported him to a hospital.

No officers were hurt in the exchange.

Traffic was detoured Wednesday morning at the intersections of Southern Ave. and Wheeler Rd., and Southern Ave. and Chesapeake St. NE. while police used the light of day to search for evidence.
