WASHINGTON — Metro says it’s investigating the cause of power problems that tripped up the morning rush-hour commute along the Red Line.

The power problems affected different parts of the rail line Wednesday morning and caused major delays for thousands of commuters as well as single-tracking.

Metro says on its Twitter account that it recognizes it was a “rough morning” on the Red Line and that it’s investigating the source of the problem.

In one instance, a train was stranded on the tracks near the Tenleytown station because of power problems. Emergency crews were on standby, though officials decided not to evacuate the train. The train was later moved into the Tenleytown station.

The problems were fixed and normal service was restored for the evening commute.
