CRESTON, Calif. (CBSDC) — A rodeo clown is accused of making a racist joke about Michelle Obama over the public address system during a weekend rodeo.
The San Luis Obispo Tribune reports that Mike Hayhurst joked Saturday about how National Geographic offered the first lady money to pose in the magazine.
“Playboy is offering Ann Romney $250,000 to pose in the magazine and the White House is upset about it because National Geographic only offered Michelle Obama $50 to pose for them,” Hayhurst reportedly said, according to the Tribune.
Creston Classic Rodeo board members are calling on Hayhurst to issue a public apology.
“We probably won’t be using his services in the future,” board member Mike Barrett told the paper.
Rodeo spectators were shocked when they heard the derogatory comment.
“I was really appalled and the people around me were really appalled,” Dona Wilson told the Tribune. “He was acting like we were buying into his bigotry and we weren’t.”
The Tribune reports Hayhurst was taken to the hospital Saturday night for head injuries after a bull tossed him into the air earlier that day.
