LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Tuesday’s storm downed power lines and left thousands of Washington area residents without power.
However, the electric companies were proactive and had additional crews on standby in advance of the expected severe weather.
As of 9 p.m., Pepco reports 1,749 customers were in the dark as were 3,861 BGE customers in Maryland.
Just a handful of Dominion customers in Northern Virginia were still in the dark.
The bad weather was blamed for a fatal vehicle crash in McLean, Va. Tuesday afternoon. One person was killed after their car crashed into a tree, rolled several times and caught fire.
In addition, one person was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Stafford County that involved a tractor-trailer.
