TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A new poll shows a majority of New Jerseyans think Gov. Chris Christie’s speech at the Republican National Convention was self-serving, but they’re not holding it against him.
The Fairleigh Dickinson PublicMind poll out Tuesday finds 51 percent of registered voters think Christie is doing a good job as governor, while 35 percent disapprove of his performance.
The governor gets the high job approval rating even though 58 percent of respondents overall — and nearly half of Republicans — believe his keynote speech in Tampa was self-promotional and not terribly helpful to the GOP ticket.
The telephone survey of 901 registered voters was conducted from Sept. 6-12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
