COLUMBIA, Md. (CBSDC) - Do you remember the Columbia man who was caught on camera assaulting a high school student on school property? As it turns out that hard evidence was enough. He was convicted and sentenced.
Donnell Vannison, 40, was sentenced to 60 days in jail in Howard County, months after being caught on camera assaulting a high school student in Columbia.
Vannison pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree assault after admitting he struck a 16-year-old male on school grounds in March. He was facing up to 10 years in prison for attacking the student on the premises of Long Reach High School.
As students crowded around to watch, one student pulled out a cell phone and recorded video of the entire fight then sent it to a popular hip-hop blog. The video went viral across the internet over the result of the fight – the 40-year-old man getting knocked unconscious by the 16-year-old.
