WOODBRIDGE, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Police say two Woodbridge women were running an illegal home daycare center that kept infants restrained in car seats in bathrooms and closets.
Prince William County Police charged 23-year-old Rabia Qayyum and 29-year-old Anila Qayyum with seven counts each of reckless endangerment of a child. The two women were being held on bond Wednesday.
Police say they searched the home Tuesday and found the two women caring for 21 children unassisted, ranging in age from 3 months to 4 years old.
Seven of the children less than a year old were found strapped into car seats throughout the home, including a bathroom and closet.
Residents of Spriggs Run Estates say they are shocked by the arrests.
“It’s heartbreaking to hear that people would do this,” one resident said. “It’s appalling and disgusting. It’s such a shame that it was here in this neighborhood and it makes me very sad.”
None of the children was injured.
