ESSEX, Md. (CBSDC) - A middle school student in Baltimore County is now in custody after reportedly waving a gun around in class.
Baltimore County Police say they apprehended an eighth-grade student at Stemmer’s Run Middle School in Essex after he brought a gun to school Tuesday morning.
Prior to the shooting, the suspect went into the bathroom for approximately 20 minutes and was crying when he came out a student eyewitness says.
When a teacher asked whether the student was okay, the suspect brandished the gun and pointed it another student, reports CBS Baltimore’s Mike Hellgren. The teacher then reportedly stepped between the gun and the student at which point the suspect pointed the gun at himself.
The teacher then slapped the gun out of the student’s hand.
Students were dismissed at the regular time.
This comes just weeks after a tenth grade student at Perry Hall High School in Baltimore shot a fellow student in the school cafeteria.
