ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins appear to be headed into Sunday’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints relatively healthy.
The uncertainty surrounding Kory Lichtensteiger (knee) and Brian Orakpo (chest) appears to be lifting with the guard and linebacker each receiving good news in the health department.
Both players have fully participated in practice without suffering setbacks this week.
“Anytime somebody has been in the system for a year or two years, obviously it helps,” head coach Mike Shanahan said with regard to Lichtensteiger. “So if you do miss any time, you have a good feeling when you come back of what is expected of you within the system and what your responsibilities are in your second or third year.”
Meanwhile, defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said Orakpo has also been practicing well.
“He had that one scare in the Chicago game, but I expect him to be ready to play,” said Haslett.
Although there were concerns about a banged up backfield during the preseason, not a single running back has landed on the team’s injury report this week.
Cornerback Josh Wilson (abdomen) and defensive tackle Chris Baker (ankle) were also able to fully participate in Thursday’s practice.
