ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC) — A suspected dog fighting ring has been broken up in Fairfax County.
Authorities took a number of dogs out of a home on Tripton Lane in Alexandria, Va. Wednesday afternoon. 9News Now reports a total of eight dogs were seized.
Photos taken at the scene show a number of emaciated pit bulls being walked or carried out by officers.
One person has been charged with being an unfit owner in connection with the investigation.
Robert Hancasky, who lives nearby, says he didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary at the home and can’t doesn’t believe the home has ties to dog fighting. His only concern is for the well being of the dogs removed from the home. He doesn’t want them to be put down.
Other neighbors told All-News 99.1 reporter Cameron Thompson they heard worrying cries coming from the home at night.
Fairfax County Police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell would not confirm the search warrant was related to a dog fighting investigation.
