ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins are gearing up to play what could be a two-fold opponent in Sunday’s season opener.
On one hand, Washington will be facing a New Orleans Saints team with something to prove following an offseason chock-full of scandal.
On the other hand, Who Dat Nation can be loud enough to blow the roof off the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, making the venue one of the loudest in the National Football League.
The team aimed to tackle both in practice this week with a simple solution: blast music in their newly fashioned enclosed bubble while installing their game plan.
Here are Wednesday’s notes and quotes from players in the locker room.
London Fletcher: The long-tenured team leader had a funny quip when asked about Wednesday’s season opener between the NFC East rival New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.
“I wish they both could lose,” Fletcher said.
Brian Orakpo (pectoral muscle): It’s not a lock the linebacker will play Sunday, but he’s optimistic.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Orakpo said. “But I feel good.”
Kory Lichtensteiger (knee scope): The offensive lineman is also planning on playing Sunday. He was sidelined throughout the preseason as his knee recovered from the procedure.
Evan Royster: The running back is listed number one on the depth chart at running back, but says he’s been told ‘nothing’ with regard to whether that means he’ll be starting on Sunday.
“I really don’t know what exactly what my role is going to be,” Royster added.
Lorenzo Alexander: The veteran is well aware the Redskins are underdogs for the season opener. says he is well aware on them being underdogs Sunday in New Orleans.
“I listen to The FAN all the time,” Alexander said. “So I hear them talking about it.”
