Redskins: Mike Shanahan, Roy Helu And Bubble Players
LANDOVER, Md. (CBSDC) — The Redskins finished off the preseason 3-1 as Kirk Cousins passed for 222 yards to lead the Washington to a 30-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I thought Kirk did a good job,” Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. “Anytime you have just a couple days of preparation to put a game plan in for somebody, I thought he handled himself quite well. He played hard.”
In his first action of the preseason, Roy Helu Jr. rushed for 90 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown, despite not being fully recovered from sore Achilles’ tendons.
“I thought he gathered a little steam and played extremely well,” Shanahan said.
Aldrick Robinson (2 kickoff returns for 67 yards) and Dezmon Briscoe (1 catch for 17 yards) are both bubble guys who are looking to make the team with final cuts having to be in by 9pm Friday night.
“I’m going to put my phone on silent so if I do get [called], I [won't] hear it,” Robinson said.
Briscoe is uncertain of his future because he didn’t play any special teams this preseason.
“My offensive performance was pretty good this preseason,” Briscoe said. “But I didn’t play any special teams. Just got to wait and see.”
