WASHINGTON (CBSDC) -The National Zoo is debuting a new exhibit in September aimed at bringing visitors into the habitat of the North American wildlife.

California sea lions and seals are the stars of the new American Trail Exhibit which will also feature wolves, otters, beavers and plenty more wildlife. Guests can wander through landscaped trails where they’ll have the chance to come face-to-face with sea lions.

The American Trail highlights species indigenous to North American wildlife that represent the “triumph of the American spirit and conservation success stories” as explained by the National Zoo. Many of the species of the exhibit have been listed as endangered at some point or another and have recovered through the help of persistent conservation efforts.

The American trail is lined with poplars and evergreens and the rolling sound of falling water. A kid-friendly tide pool is also on hand for young children to splash and play. But perhaps the coolest feature of the new exhibit, set to debut September 1, is the underwater sea cave, where patrons can enjoy the view of life below the water’s surface.
