The Washington Redskins held an afternoon in practice in preparation for their first home game and third preseason game of the season on Saturday.

Roy Helu (sore Achilles) had his pads on and did a little bit, but “not a lot” according to Shanahan.  Tim Hightower (ACL) had his pads on and “did get a number of reps today” according to Shanahan and he also added it was a “good sign”.  But Shanahan did say that neither of them could play right now.  Shanahan also said London Fletcher (undisclosed injury) will play on Saturday as long as he doesn’t have a set back.

Shanahan said that he won’t take into account in the final roster that with one more failed drug test, Trent Williams and Fred Davis will be suspended for the season.

Shanahan was asked about Clinton Portis, who is retiring tomorrow and who Shanahan drafted in Denver and also had in Washington, and called him “probably the most physical back I’ve ever been around”.
