WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Several Republican lawmakers were formally asked about the details surrounding a drunken, nude late-night swim in Israel’s Sea of Galilee last summer.
According to Politico, one of the participants – Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas – stripped and dove into the sea naked during the party last August.
“A year ago, my wife, Brooke, and I joined colleagues for dinner at the Sea of Galilee in Israel. After dinner I followed some Members of Congress in a spontaneous and very brief dive into the sea and regrettably I jumped into the water without a swimsuit,” Yoder said in a statement to the website. “It is my greatest honor to represent the people of Kansas in Congress and [for] any embarrassment I have caused for my colleagues and constituents, I apologize.”
Representatives Tom Reed and Michael Grimm of New York, Ben Quayle of Arizona, and Steve Southerland of Florida – as well as his daughter – were also allegedly involved in the late-night swim, which included approximately 20 people in all.
The Sea of Galilee is located in northern Israel, in an area also referred to as part of the Cradle of Christianity. Jesus Christ reportedly spent a great deal of time on its shores during his lifetime.
The FBI is looking to the incident, to determine whether or not the representatives behaved in an inappropriate manner, Politico additionally found. Several lawmakers involved were reportedly questioned about what went on during the party.
