McLEAN, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Motorists now have an opportunity to voice their opinion about the proposed rate increases along the Dulles Toll Road.
Under the proposal from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority the combined one-way rate for a ride on the length of the toll road, which connects Dulles International Airport to the Capital Beltway, would increase from $2.25 to $2.75 in 2013, $3.50 in 2014, and $4.50 in 2015.
Rate increases are needed to pay for extending the Metrorail system through Tysons Corner and to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County. Commuters on the toll road have complained that they are paying an unfair share of the costs for a system that they do not use.
Public comments can be submitted online, and three public hearings are scheduled in September in Ashburn, Reston and McLean.
