SILVER SPRING, Md. (CBSDC) — It resembled a scene out of the movie “Speed,” but the damage was very real when a bus crashed into a home in Silver Spring.
The Ride-On bus lost control, struck a taxi and plowed into the front door of a home at Avenel Road and Stateside Drive just before 11 a.m. Monday. The taxi came to rest in the front yard.
As many as five people on the bus, including the driver, were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver told a the next door neighbor that the brakes on the bus failed while making a slight downhill turn.
Kema Olamide, the owner of the home, was distraught over the damage, but grateful neither of her sons were injured in the crash.
“I thought it was an earthquake at first,” said Toye Olamide who was asleep when the bus crashed into his sister’s room. “My initial reaction was to run out the front door.”
However, the door was blocked. It wasn’t until he looked out the window that he realized exactly what happened.
Olamide’s brother was in the basement at the time.
Another man just arrived and parked on the street out front when the bus shot passed him and crashed into the home.
A building inspector was called to the scene to examine the structural integrity of the home.
