CHANTILLY, Va. (CBSDC) — A Lufthansa jet and a United Express commuter plane both suffered minor damage after the jet’s wing clipped the tail section of the turboprop on a taxiway at Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia Friday afternoon.
Airport spokeswoman Kimberly Gibbs said no injuries were reported, and the airport continued normal operations. The accident occurred around 3:20 p.m.
Gibbs estimated the planes were probably traveling only a few miles an hour when they made contact, very close to the airport gate.
The Lufthansa jet was on the taxiway out preparing for a departure to Frankfurt. Lufthansa spokesman Nils Haupt said the plane had very minor damage on its wing tip and had been cleared to fly with its 183 passengers aboard.
The United Express plane had arrived from Pittsburgh. A spokesman for Pinnacle Airlines, which was operating the commuter flight, said all 68 passengers got off safely.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Pinnacle were investigating.
