Route-29 Partially Closed In Gainesville Due To Massive Church Fire

GAINESVILLE, Va. (CBSDC) – Route-29 Northbound is closed in Gainesville as firefighters continue to douse a burning church that went up in flames Friday morning.

Route-29 has partially reopened in Gainesville, with Southbound lanes now moving and Northbound lanes still closed near Linton Hall Road.

The large fire took hold of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in the early morning hours. The fire has been extinguished but authorities are on the scene investigating and firefighters are still making sure the fire is completely out.

WNEW has learned that the fire originated in one of the church’s air conditioning units, then emanated to the rest of the structure, according to Prince William County police.

Damages to the baptist church are immense, with some windows completely black; others blown out completely.
