WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Robert Griffin III’s debut delivered record television ratings Thursday night.

The Washington Redskins preseason victory over the Buffalo Bills earned an average household rating of 9.15 in the Washington, D.C. market. It was the highest-rated program on Comcast SportsNet since April 2001.

Griffin’s debut shattered the previous Redskins preseason ratings record of 4.24 which was set in last August against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Viewership peaked in the first quarter while Griffin was getting his first taste of the NFL. While he was under center, Redskins fans, and perhaps a few curious onlookers, delivered a 10.75 rating for CSN, translating to roughly 402,000 viewers in the Washington market.

In addition, nearly 70,000 viewers passed on the Ravens preseason opener to watch RGIII in Baltimore.

CSN’s previous all-time record rating was a 8.10. Hundreds of thousands tuned in to witness the Washington Capitals complete an epic series collapse against the Montreal Canadians in Game 7 of the 2010 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The 2-1 loss marked the the first time in history a No. 1 seed blew a three games to one series advantage to an 8-seed.
