HAGERSTOWN, Md. (CBSDC) - A young boy in Hagerstown who was transported to a local hospital Friday after finding a gun and accidentally shooting himself with it, is now in stable condition.
Police say the 3-year-old boy found a handgun while playing with his 7-year-old sister in a parking lot, began playing with the gun then accidentally shot himself in the chest.
The child was rushed to Meritus Medical Center at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
WNEW has learned that the boy’s injuries are severe, and his condition is serious, but he is now stable, according to local station, WHAG.
A man who identified himself as the boy’s father, but chose to remain unnamed, said his son is going to be alright.
Police say the gun contained only one bullet when the children found it prior to the accident. There were no witnesses to the shooting other than the young boy’s sister.
