GLEN ECHO, Md. (CBSDC) - The days of not being accustomed to red light cameras and speed cameras are a thing of the past, but now Glen Echo is pushing to change the culture even further by installing a stop sign camera.
According to a report by the Washington Examiner, town leaders in Glen Echo want to install the town’s first stop sign camera at Oxford Road and University Avenue, located by a local park. The mayor of Glen Echo says too many people roll through the stop sign that’s there now without actually stopping.
The mayor estimates that approximately 160,000 cars fail to stop at that stop sign each year.
Stop sign cameras would have to be approved by state legislature, so keep an eye on this as an issue of precedent that could expand beyond the town of Glen Echo, should the movement be green lighted.
