The Washington Redskins have just one day of practices left before getting the opportunity to strap on the pads and face the Buffalo Bills in their first preseason game of the season. With fans looking on at Redskins Park, things again turned chippy, proving Thursday can’t arrive soon enough for some players.

Josh Wilson intercepted a Robert Griffin III pass and went running down the sidelines when Trent Williams hit Wilson a tad too hard and Wilson went hard to the ground.  Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan brought the team together right afterwards to talk to them for a minute or so.

“We get very competitive out there, but you can’t hurt your own players,” Shanahan said.  “There’s a fine line of being competitive and being smart. And I thought that shot was, the shot that one of our players took, was not the right type of shot. I talked to them about taking care of each other, being competitive, but at the same time being smart.”

Starting right guard Chris Chester sprained his left ankle.  Shanahan says it’s just a mild sprain and “hopefully he’ll be alright in the next day or two”.  Says he doesn’t think he’ll need an MRI.  Rookie Adam Gettis filled in for Chester on the first team at right guard.  The first string offensive line is already missing left guard Kory Lichtensteiger (knee) and Jammal Brown (hip).  It is hopeful that Lichtensteiger will be back before week one and there is no timetable on Brown.

Anthony Armstrong (shoulder) wore a yellow (no contact) jersey today and also put a question mark with tape on it.  Armstrong did practice with the team.  Josh Morgan (hamstring) went through positional drills but didn’t practice 11-on-11 with the team.  Lance Lewis (groin) also didn’t practice today.

Shanahan wouldn’t say who is ruled out for Thursday’s game yet, but did say it is unlikely anyone who didn’t practice today will play in that game.  Shanahan did say Kirk Cousins will quarterback the third unit on Thursday.
