ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC) — Port City Brewing Company unveiled its Derecho Common beer Friday afternoon in Alexandria.
The beer, a one-time batch, came about after the brewery was able to save several tanks of its goodness after losing power during the Derecho storm that ripped through the region in late June.
The storm left hundreds of thousands of area businesses and residents without power, including Port City Brewing Company.
“There was a lot of uncertainty and we were on pins and needles there for many many days,” said Bill Butcher, the company’s founder.
But as it turns out the brew master were able to get creative.
“We took a situation that was going very badly for us . . . and it turned out that the brewers were able to turn it into somewhat of a positive,” said Butcher.
The suds aren’t expected to last long.
Port City Brewing Company is located at 3950 Wheeler Ave. in Alexandria.
