Police Release Video Of Person Of Interest In Minnesota Ave. Homicide

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Metropolitan police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in connection to the a homicide on Minnesota Avenue.

The murder of Darryl Sweet took place in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue NE, Thursday. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of an intoxicated male Thursday evening, but upon arrival, they located an adult male unconscious and unresponsive.

Emergency responders transported the victim to an area hospital where he was admitted. Detectives from the Homicide unit responded to the hospital to investigate where it was determined the man was suffering from an internal head wound.

The man was pronounced dead on Friday.

The man has been identified as 61-year-old Darryl Eugene Sweet Sr., of Southeast D.C. The results of an autopsy revealed the death was a homicide by blunt force trauma to the head.

Police have released a video of the Person of Interest in the case.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who can provide information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for the homicide.
