WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Michigan Avenue is closed in the 1200 block and 13th Street NE because of a three-vehicle crash Friday morning.
The accident involved a shuttle bus and two other vehicles. An SUV was turned over in the collision.
A witness on the scene tells WNEW’s Kevin Patrick that the driver of the third vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road heading eastbound when it struck the SUV, flipping it from the collision.
Four people have been transported to the hospital.
Fire officials say the driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the three passengers only sustained minor injuries.
A hazmat team is on the scene cleaning up a fluid leak, which has spilled 25 to 50 gallons of fuel onto the road. One fire official says the fuel had to be blocked from flowing into the sewer.
Kevin Patrick says the non-overturned vehicle was carrying a busload of nurses.
