OWINGS, Md. (CBSDC) - Two adults and one child are dead and a 12-year-old is in critical condition following a murder-suicide in Owings Tuesday morning.
Authorities found the bodies of Frank Hayward, 32, and his wife Cynthia Hayward, 31, and their 2-year-old daughter Natalie inside their home in the 1800 block of Candlelight Court.
12-year-old Frank Hayward III was transported to the hospital in critical condition with lacerations to his neck.
Another woman escaped the house unharmed, but police are releasing few details regarding her identity or why she was at the home.
Hayward barricaded himself inside the home and was making threats when police first arrived on the scene after receiving an anonymous 9-1-1 call Tuesday morning.
The 32-year-old set the house on fire before rescuers were able to gain entry at the conclusion of the standoff.
Authorities believe the Frank Hayward shot his wife and 2-year-old child and attempted to murder the 12-year-old before taking his own life.
Police say not everyone inside the home died as a result of gunshot wounds, but did not elaborate on the individual causes of death.
The suspect was described as a pleasant man, but had complained of family issues in the past. Police were called to the Hayward residence in May to conduct a welfare check.
