ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins waived cornerback Chase Minnifield on Tuesday and signed David Jones to fill his spot on the roster.
Minnifield will automatically revert to the Redskins’ reserve/injured list if he’s not claimed off waivers.
The undrafted UVA product suffered a setback with his injured knee at some point during the offseason according to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times.
Minnifield’s agent said his client will not be able play this season after undergoing an unspecified procedure on his injured knee in Alabama recently.
Jones was originally drafted in the fifth round by the New Orleans Saints in 2007 out of Wingate.
He has appeared in 54 regular season games with 12 starts thus far in his NFL career. During that span he recorded 75 total tackles, 10 passes defensed, one interception, one fumble recovery and 13 special teams tackles.
