Mosquito-borne Illnesses Found In 2 Virginia Cities
NORFOLK, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Break out the bug spray – you’re going to need it.
Health officials in Norfolk and Virginia Beach are advising residents to take precautions after chickens tested positive for mosquito-borne illnesses.
Media outlets report that a chicken in Norfolk tested positive for the West Nile virus. A chicken in Virginia Beach tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
Health departments in both cities sprayed the areas where the illnesses were discovered.
Residents are advised to use insect repellant and wear long, loose and light-colored clothing when outdoors. Old tires, buckets and other sources of standing water should be removed.
