WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Police around the Washington region are beefing up security at movie theaters in the wake of the Friday’s “The Dark Knight Rises” shooting tragedy in Colorado.

Officers in the District, Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties all plan to increase their presence at theaters.

Fairfax County Police told All-News 99.1 they do not have any plans to increase patrols at theaters, but will have officers patrolling as they normally would.

The latest in the Batman franchise was expected to be one of this summer’s biggest box office hits. However, the tragic events in Aurora have cast doubt on whether the Christian Bale film will meet studio projections.

Will the shooting impact your decision to go see the movie this weekend?
