RESTON, Va. (CBSDC) — The westbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road were closed for more than two hours Wednesday afternoon following a serious accident involving a Super Shuttle van and another vehicle.

One person suffered life threatening injuries in the wreck and was transported to a local hospital in a Medevac helicopter.

Four others suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred shortly after 3:15 p.m. Wednesday when the van struck a jersey wall on the Dulles Access Road.

Authorities re-opened the toll road portion of the highway around 5:30 p.m. However, the access road remained closed as officials worked to clear the accident scene.

The delays extended for miles with traffic backed up as far as the I-495 interchange.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
