ANNAPOLIS, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Gov. Martin O’Malley is set to meet with the presiding officers of the Legislature to discuss the prospects of holding a special session in the next few weeks to expand gambling.
O’Malley is scheduled to meet with House Speaker Michael Busch and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller on Tuesday morning at the governor’s residence in Annapolis.
The window of opportunity is creeping toward a close for a special session before an August deadline to approve ballot language for voters to get the final say in November, if lawmakers approve legislation. O’Malley says he believes a decision needs to be made in the next 10 days.
O’Malley says he would like to hold a special session to decide on allowing table games and a new casino site in Prince George’s.
In April the House wanted to add a sixth casino at National Harbor featuring slots only while adding table games at the other five casinos in the state.
