BURTONSVILLE, Md. (CBSDC) - Montgomery County firefighters fought a three alarm blaze in an apartment building in Burtonsville, and officials confirm some residents have been rescued from the flames.
Captain Oscar Garcia, the spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, says fire crews were alerted to the blaze in the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard at about 7:23 Friday morning. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found the building to be fully involved.
Officials say 34 units were damaged in the fire, displacing 74 residents in total.
The fire department called for a second alarm, and then a third.
Officials say 3 or 4 people have had to be rescued from the upper floors of the apartment building. Officials believe everyone has gotten out of the building safely. Firefighters had to evacuate the structure after it got too dangerous for them to fight.
Firefighters performed an exterior attack on the building, spraying it with hoses from ladders.
