COLLEGE PARK, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Police are scheduled to discuss with the media what caused a shootout broke out near College Park Thursday evening.
Prince George’s County police say an armed man was wounded during an exchange of gunfire with police near the University of Maryland campus in College Park.
Police say they were called to the 4700 block of Lakeland Road about 10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man with a gun. Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a police spokesman, says gunshots were exchanged and the suspect then fled.
Copeland says police chased the man and encountered him a short distance away along the Route 1 corridor. The man, who was not been identified, was taken to a hospital.
Copeland says police plan to release further details about the incident during a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
